Water may not drain optimally if the hose was improperly installed. Additionally, large collections of water can cause the hose to shift and make the problem worse. Disconnect the drain hose, and clear any debris from inside the hose. Then, reconnect it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If a clogged drain hose it not the problem, the issue may be a clogged drain trap.
Drain traps collect items that have been flushed through drain cycles and are normally located near the drain pump of the washer. Proper maintenance of the drain trap protects the washing machine’s pump. Remove the drain trap according to the manufacturer's instructions. Clear any waste materials that might be causing the problem and replace it. If after checking the drain hose and trap, the washer is still not draining, there may be a malfunctioning drain pump. If the drain pump is the culprit, the best solution is to contact a licensed repair technician to replace the part.

Our Free Kenmore Washing Machine Repair Manual was designed to assist the novice technician repair of home (domestic) washers that have been operating successfully for an extended period of months or years and have only recently stopped operating properly, with no major change in installation parameters or location. Find which Kenmore washer parts in your machine need replacing and how to do it yourself. Note: This manual does not cover Kenmore front-loading washers; only Kenmore top-loader washing machines.
I have a Kenmore 80 Series dryer that I bought in 2002. My son pushes the button to start the dryer and it started just fine. When I came back later to restart it the dryer would not come back on. My husband thought that it was the actual button switch that did not stay in the start mode. He thought maybe that switch was broken. He ordered the new switch and installed it today.
The dryer still does not turn on. He knows that the power is good because it shocked him a little. What else could it be? I don't think that this is caused by a failed heating element because it would still run but not heat in that situation. A blown thermal fuse could be preventing your dryer from running. The images below show the location of the thermal fuse on the common types of Kenmore 80 Series dryers.
If your dryer has the lint screen in the housing just inside the dryer door, then it should have the bottom front service panel as shown in the first image. To access the thermal fuse unplug the dryer and remove the bottom front service panel as shown below. You will likely need to remove the lint duct assembly as well to access the thermal fuse. If you have a volt/ohm meter, you can check the thermal fuse for continuity. Remove one wire (with the dryer still unplugged) and check the resistance across the leads of the fuse with the volt/ohm meter. It should measure near zero ohms of resistance.
If it measures Ol (open load of infinite resistance) then it will need to be replaced. If you do not have a volt/ohm meter then you can tape the wires together with electrical tape to bypass the fuse for a short test. Reassemble the dryer and see if it runs with the thermal fuse bypassed. If it does then replacing the thermal fuse will fix your dryer problem. NOTE: Do not continue to run the dryer with this fuse bypassed. It is an essential safety feature of the dryer that must be replaced.
Also, check the lint screen and the exhaust vent duct system of the dryer for a clog or restriction. Wash the lint screen with water and completely dryer it to remove softener residue that could be accumulated on it (especially if you use dryer softener sheets). Check the flexible vent hose on the back of the dryer for kinks or clogs. Check the exhaust vent duct system to the outside of your home. Make sure that the vent damper on the outside of your home is opening properly. If an exhaust air flow restriction is left unresolved, then the thermal fuse will likely blow again shortly after replacing it. If your dryer has the lint screen that pulls out of the top panel of the dryer then the thermal fuse will be located inside the back panel of the dryer as shown in the second image.

Unplug the dryer and remove the back panel of the dryer to access this location. (NOTE: If you have the type of dryer shown in the first image then you will not be able to remove the back panel.) Since you indicated that your husband encountered an electrical shock, you apparently understand the importance of unplugging the dryer before accessing internal components.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore 80 Series dryer. The model number is usually on around the opening of the dryer. Open the door and look around the sides of the opening. The model number will likely start with 110.
